Browser war is the competition between different browsers that started in the late 1990’s. They are competing for dominance of the usage of web browser. The first browser war emerged between the Netscape’s Navigator and Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. The battle last for several years until the Netscape’s Navigator lost bit by bit. But various newly developed web browsers appeared and joined the battle such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, and Opera.

Until today that connecting to the net becomes a need of everybody, competition between the existing web browsers are still emerging: Microsoft Internet Explorer vs. Google Chrome vs. Mozilla Firefox vs. Safari vs. Opera vs. other web browsers.

But why do they need to fight for their domination? Why do they need to win against the others? Especially in the first parts of the war, when both Microsoft IE and Netscape’s Navigation were very harsh with each other. Competition between these web browsers may result to the loss of one or more of them. And most of the time, to obtain this victory over the other, bigger companies threatened their competitors and if not, they bring them down through the wicked and immoral ways. When there is competition, there is always a division between the customers. That’s why they want to dominate over the other to maximize their users and more users, means more income to the company.

On the other hand, the competition between the web browsers brings benefits to the users. Like for example, they are continuously updating and developing their web browser to gain more users than the other competitors making every web browsers user friendly and efficient to everybody. Another benefit of these wars is the availability of the various web browsers. As we remember, the first web browsers are not available for everyone, and then Microsoft released Microsoft Internet Explorer that was already installed in the Windows making it as the default web browser of every computer released by Windows. Because of that, on the next years, other browsers made their web browsers free for every users just to compete with Microsoft’s IE. Lastly, all users are not the same making us unique. We don’t need to use the same things just like using the same web browser. That’s why it is beneficial to us that there are variations of web browsers available for every users. Maybe the best browser for me is not the best for others and in fact, the different web browsers have different features and designs to attract different web browser users.

Web browser war will continue through time unless the internet will not be a need in the future, which is very impossible. We cannot prevent the competition between them because competition is always a part of this world wherever we go. Yes, there are unwanted outcomes regarding this war but there always be a good side in this competitions which benefits us.
